Caitlyn Amos graduated with Honors and a 4.3 GPA from Buckingham County High School in 2019. Additionally, she participated in the dual-enrollment program and earned an associate degree from Southside Virginia Community College. While in high school, Caitlyn was actively involved in the National Honors Society, Beta Club, Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) and was Captain of the Varsity Volleyball Team. She placed second in the Regional FBLA competition on Banking and Financial Systems and was a candidate for Girl’s State. She will pursue a degree in Psychology at Virginia Tech with a career ambition of becoming a psychiatrist.

Clayton Smith has lived his entire life on Shelton Store Road. He is a 2019 graduate of Buckingham County High School and he is currently enrolled in Southside Virginia Community College to receive certifications in welding. While attending high school, he completed all of the welding classes offered and received several awards in welding. Some of these awards include: Skills USA District II Champions, third place; Outstanding Achievement Award in Welding III; Certificate of Award for Welding II; and Certificate of Completion for Welding I, II, and III. While in high school, he also worked a part time job in the mechanic and welding field He has a passion for welding and plans to make it his career. He feels this scholarship would be a blessing and will ease some of the financial burden of attending college and help him achieve his career goal of welding.

Ashley Burnley lives in the Winginia area of Buckingham and is in her second semester of the Practical Nursing program at Piedmont Virginia Community College. She is a full-time student, wife and mom of three. Becoming a nurse is something that she has dreamed of since she was a child. She attended Southside Virginia Community College right out of Buckingham County High School in 2002. After originally not being accepted to the nursing program, she decided to go to work full time. In September 2017, she decided to start the journey all over again and has been thriving. She says that there is no other job that will makes her feel happy and complete. This is a lifelong dream that she is determined to make a reality.

Janel Venable graduated high school with an advance diploma and entered Old Dominion University as a sophomore in 2007. However, her educational pursuits were put on hold as she returned home to help her family care for her ailing father. Recently, she resumed her educational dreams and enrolled at Southside Virginia Community College to pursue an associate degree in Human Services. In addition to working full-time at the Cumberland County Department of Social Services, she has been extremely active in her service to the Crystal Cathedral Ministry and community organizations in Buckingham County. Crystal Cathedral previously housed a community food bank that served hundreds of people from Buckingham County and surrounding communities. Janel worked at the food bank every Saturday while it operated. As she wanted to make each person feel special, so she made it a point to know each customer served by name. Currently, she spends a lot of her time focusing on and working with the youth as she serves as a youth mentor and she engages with the community youth in multiple capacities. She is a very active member of the Buckingham NAACP where she is working to build a stronger youth chapter in Buckingham County. She believes this scholarship will help her pay for classes, books and any other supplies that she may need to complete this degree. She feels a Human Services degree will help advance her career to better serve her clients and the community.

Xavier Holman is a rising junior at Longwood University pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree with a concentration in General Biology; he plan is to further his education by seeking a master’s degree. His long-term goals are to become a pediatric surgeon after attending the University of Virginia School of Medicine. In Buckingham County High School, he was involved in many school organizations such as FFA, HOSA, JROTC, Scholastic Bowl, chess club, pep band, and competition choir and band. He says that this scholarship it will help alleviate some of the financial burdens by allowing him to purchase books and school materials, and it will assist in buying basic items such as food and transportation

Sakia White recently graduated from Buckingham County High School. While in high school she was in the dual enrollment program with Southside Virginia Community College (SVCC). While in school, she was involved in HOSA, SOAR Program, Girl Scouts, Ecology Club and SCA. She’s actively involved with Buckingham’s Habitat for Humanity and the Youth Ministry at Salem Baptist Church. She will attend Piedmont Virginia Community College to pursue a nursing career.

Alexandria Ragland is a 2019 Honors Graduate (3.65 GPA) of Buckingham County High School where she received an advanced diploma and an associate degree from Southside Virginia Community College. While at BCHS, she learned valuable leadership skills as Student Council Association (SCA) president and senior class treasurer. She was also actively involved in Future Farmers of America (FFA), Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA), Virginia Student Council Association (VSCA), Ecology Club, Prom Club, Yearbook Club, Beta Club, and 4-H volunteer activities. As SCA president, she led student body efforts to recognize and give thanks to community leaders such as firefighters, policemen, veterans, school board members, and board of supervisors in Buckingham. She participated in a community service project called "Kits for Kids" that sent goody boxes to cancer patients at St. Jude's Hospital. She was a member of the first girls’ soccer team at BCHS, and also participated in girls’ tennis and co-ed cross country. Additionally, she worked 25 hours a week and eventually became head-waitress at her grandparents’ restaurant, Teresa’s Place in Dillwyn, Virginia. Caitlyn will attend James Madison University (JMU) where she will major in Biology and minor in Kinesiology. Her career goal is to become a physical therapist because she enjoys helping people and the medical field.

Shaeleah Whorley is a life-long resident of Buckingham County and a 2019 graduate of BCHS with a 3.081 GPA. She is an exceptional art student with a tenacious work ethic. While in high school, she participated in numerous clubs and athletic organizations such as; Skills USA, Education Credit Management Corporation (ECMC), Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA), National BETA Club, Yearbook Club, Cross Country and she was 2019 BCHS Prom Queen. She is an ECMC Scholar and received a Women’s Club Art Award. She plans to excel at Radford University securing a bachelor’s in fine arts In Design with a concentration In Interior Design. She wants to use this education to create and grow her own interior design company. As a 1st generation college student, she hopes to establish a family trend of college graduates
