Our Community
Our community is our hometown of Buckingham County, Virginia. Buckingham County, is located south of the James River and is the geographic center of the Commonwealth of Virginia. The county was established in 1761 from the southeastern portion of Albemarle County. The origin of the county name comes from the Duke of Buckingham (Buckinghamshire, England). This is the only Buckingham County in the United States.
As of the census of 2010, there were 17,146 people and 5,695 households residing in the county. The population density was 29.6 people per square mile (10/km²). There were 7,294 housing units . The racial makeup of the county was 62.5% White, 35.1% Black or African American, 0.3% American Indian, 0.4% Asian, 1.7% Hispanic or Latino,and 1.6% from two or more other races. 60.9% of the population identified as White, not Hispanic or Latino.The largest ancestry groups are listed as 18.7% American, 9.2% English, and 5.4% German.

ABOUT THE PROGRAM
At SJRCF, we believe that small actions can create meaningful change. Our Micro-Grant Program is available to provide funding for grassroots initiatives, community-driven projects, and innovative ideas that align with our mission.
We offer funding to individuals, nonprofits, and community groups seeking to make a positive impact in the South James River Community. These grants are intended to support projects that require immediate funding for supplies, programming, or other essential resources.
How to Apply
Interested applicants can use the link below to submit a brief proposal outlining their project, goals, and funding. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis, and recipients will be selected based on funding availability. Applicants can email the completed application to info@sjrcf.org, or mail it to South James River Community Foundation, P.O. Box 272, Dillwyn, VA 23921, or hand it to any SJRCF Board Member.
